Colorful Kindergarten Birds
The kindergarten students honed in on their drawing and coloring skills to create these bright birds. After reading Susan Meddaugh's "Tree of Birds," a colorful book about friendship, community and our feathered friends, the class talked about characteristics that are unique to birds and together we broke these down into different shapes and drew the outlines. They also learned how to draw a background by applying a horizon line and proportionally sized objects. The students then used oil pastels to fill in their creatures, discovering how to mix and overlap colors to create their own, unique palette.
