After finding parallels between Thelonius Monk's jazz music and the abstract portraits of Expressionist artist Willem de Kooning, students discussed the difference between a process approach to art, versus a product approach. Students then became action painters, like de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, when they created blind contours of eachother. They later embelleshed their drawings with chalk pastels and chose a unique way to mount their work on colorful construction paper.
