The fifth grade students created these diptych paintings after viewing Pablo Picasso's work, specifically focusing on his Blue and Rose Periods. Their goal was to create two identical self-portrait contour drawings on mylar and using color to dislay different moods for each portrait. From Value to Volume
The fourth grade students did an amazing job using just black and white paint to make their self-portraits look 3D. In this project, they observed all of the different planes on their faces that create shadows and highlights and carefully mixed different values of paint to match these. To go along with the Value theme, the students surrounded their paintings with words describing things that they value in their lives.

Third Grade Picasso Portraits
These wonderful collages created by Ms. Gerke's class were based off of Pablo Picasso's cubist portraits. The third graders mastered collage techniques, when they constructed their artwork using only construction paper and magazine scraps. Please stop by the OWS library to see the entire third grade collection on display!
