Pysanka: Ukranian Egg Decoration

Upon the arrival of Spring, the third graders partook in the international art of egg decoration. They specifically studied Pysanka, a Ukranian art in which the creators hollow out eggs, write on them with hot wax and then create layers of dye-resists. Pysanka eggs can be recognized by their brilliant colors, intricate detail, traditional Ukranian patterns and symbols of nature. The third grade students learned the difficult skill of "blowing" out the eggs and decorated them with intricate patterns remniscient of the Ukranian art.

Magnificent Miro!

Influenced by Spanish artist Joan Miro, the second grade students created these vibrant collages focusing on texture, contrast, symbolism, pattern and organic shapes. Nice work!
