1st Grade Complementary Leaves

Upon creating these colorful leaf paintings, the 1st grade students studied artwork created by the famous contemporary artist, Andy Warhol. The students were inspired by the bright palette and repeated images which Warhol commonly thread throughout many of his prints.

To begin these works, the students made stencils to create repeated images and later contrived a color scheme consisting of pairs of complementary colors to attain bold contrast. When painting their work, the 1st graders experimented with mixing different colors to create their own unique masterpieces. They ultimately finished their work by adding wonderful linear details using oil pastels.

3rd Grade 12 Shape Collages

The third grade students began this project by drawing 12 organic shapes, using just one, continual line. The students then developed a color scheme for their collages, choosing a monochromatic palette for 11 of their shapes and an accent color for the final one. After all of the shapes were traced, cut out of magazines and pieced together on their paper, the class finished off the collages by outlining their lines in colorful yarn. Hard work and dedication paid off, as the final works are wonderful!

5th Grade Lizards

These lizards are contemporary renderings of the "X-Ray" style paintings created thousands of years ago by indigenous Australians, the Aborigine Peoples. The 5th grade lizards retain the light on dark, complex line work of the native art. They do however regress from the earth-tones of the Aborigine work, displaying much brighter and bold colors, which results in work that resembles hues of our own time and culture.
